Happy Holidays 2011
It’s the end of the year, a time that for many means quiet reflection on the seasons past and planning for the year to come amidst friends and family...Of course, for those of us here on planet earth it also means an extra time crunch at work, mob-scene level crowds everywhere we go, pointless and burdensome holiday obligations (office X-mas parties anyone?), and awful, I mean just god-awful holiday music. Seriously! Holly-Jolly Christmas, Jinglebell Rock, Mariah Carey! Is it any wonder suicide rates spike in December?
Holiday contradictions aside, I want to take this opportunity to briefly express my gratitude to all those who have offered me support and feedback in 2011. This includes my many teachers, without whose expert guidance I could never have passed my Muscle Activation mastery exam, the various expos and dance studios that invited me to lecture this year, my clients and students, my colleagues, and all those who have read and commented on my blogs. A big thank you to everyone!
Speaking of colleagues in fitness/exercise, I realize that I beat up a lot on the industry we share and some of the people working in it, if not in name than certainly in substance. This is the natural result of my attempt to craft articles that speak to the concerns of my target consumers and not those of us who ‘do’ exercise for a living. In my efforts to provide informative advice I’m sometimes obligated to call bullshit for what it is.
But as much as I might single out certain ideas and trends for criticism, overall exercise professionals are awesome. I love that there are hundreds of thousands of us offering different perspectives and approaches, but all committed to promoting health and wellbeing. The work you do is worthwhile. Keep doing it. Here’s to a healthy and productive 2012!
